The Mormon church is criticized for tithing its members, but according to many, Herbert Armstrong's Worldwide Church of god compounded tithing and something congregants were giving up to 30-50% of their income and were fearful they would not make it well in the next life if they didn't.  Herbert Armstrong became exceedingly wealthy from his church and financially ruined many lives.  The church's book on Tithing is below.
